Parking ticket nightmares
I got a kick out of the Madison fellow who decided not to
feed the meter and then complained he received a parking ticket.
Many years
ago, I parked in my normal spot on the street near Union Station and when I
arrived back from work, my car was gone. I told policeman nearby that my
car was stolen. He got on the radio and the dispatcher told him 12 cars
were towed and impounded that morning because the city swept the street; it’s a “no parking” area. I notified the officer the "No Parking"
signs indicate “Street Sweeping on Thursdays - April through October” and
it was a Friday in December. The officer was told by the dispatcher
that someone was supposed to post emergency “No Parking” signs the night
before. The officer and I walked over to where my car used to be,
and there were no temporary signs to be found. The officer said he
could do nothing about it and walked away. So I and about 11 other unlucky
folks had to pay $125 to get our cars back.
