Thanks to North Haven leaders, crews for work on storm
I would like to thank Michael Freda, first selectman of North Haven, the public works director and the pay loader and plow truck drivers for their extremely hard work during the blizzard.
The first selectman was very responsive to my emails and he gave a considerable amount of time on the phone listening to my questions and trying to help me understand the numerous ways they had to approach this storm.
Although we were not always in agreement, I think that they did the best they could with the equipment they have. I hope that in the coming weeks they will discuss the necessity of finding better and quicker means to dealing with the changes in our weather patterns. We need to plan ahead and find more imaginative ways to deal with these climate changes. The town needs to investigate purchasing and/or leasing of the type of equipment that would be more effective for handling new pattern of snowfalls which we now get.
I understand the theory of the priority of doing the streets, but I’m not sure I agree with doing cul-de-sacs last. In 2011, we had a pretty big storm with about the same depth of the snow but we seemed to handle it better. I do not know what changed but I think that one thing was not plowing sooner in order to stay ahead of the storm so that the plow trucks didn’t get stuck. I appreciate the hard work by all and thank you all very much.
