'26 reasons' editorials remind us of what's important

I would like to respond to the opinion written Feb. 21 regarding homage shown to the Baylor women’s basketball stars, Griner and Sims.
We have been fortunate to have and to see up close some of the best men’s and women’s college basketball ever considering our state’s size. We have also enjoyed the extensive coverage the New Haven Register has done when our teams win and when they lose. We have been spoiled by the dominance of the UConn women’s basketball team.
What made me write this letter was that on the left hand column of the Opinion page on Feb. 21 was the continuing "26 Reasons To Act: Allison Wyatt," a beautiful 6-year-old. The Register has done a good job covering this horrific story and reminding us what’s important.
Connecticut women’s basketball has gotten plenty of press and will continue. Regarding the Baylor game, we got beat, the Register did its job, end of story.
Not so concerning the tragedy in Newtown. The New Haven Register is doing an excellent job with these ongoing articles, putting faces on this tragedy, exhorting change and helping us not to forget these little ones and their teachers. As a parent who has lost a child, you hope your child will not be forgotten. New Haven Register, please keep doing what you are doing. I think you are loyal to your readers.
