After Sandy Hook, it's no time to be cutting mental health services

The governor’s office is calling for drastic funding cuts to private, nonprofit mental health providers in Connecticut.
In light of the public outcry for increased mental health services following the Sandy Hook tragedy, I find these cuts to be extremely concerning.
Considering that the Governor and other politicians have acknowledged the importance and essential need of these services, these budget cuts are even more confusing. Obviously the support they voiced was only meant for a sound bite and not reality.
The public should be aware of these proposed cuts and the potential impact upon an already overloaded system and what this would mean to our communities throughout the state.
We can no longer say, “Oh this issue doesn’t affect me”. It affects all of us. We have a responsibility as human beings to ensure that those who need treatment can actually access it.
Please call the governor and your legislators and tell them how essential mental health services are to our communities and to increase community support funding rather than cutting it. Now is not the time to sacrifice our communities and our most vulnerable citizens due to illogical budget decisions that will cost the tax payers more in the long-term.
