Bill O'Reilly wrong about the Easter bunny
As someone who is not Christian, I think I know more about Christianity than Bill O’Reilly, who equates the Easter Bunny with the resurrection of Jesus.
In his column of March 30, he complains that the “secular crowd now freely attacks Easter,” and that they are “attempting to diminish Christian celebrations.” How? By wanting to expand the Easter egg hunt and the Easter bunny into the spring egg hunt and the spring bunny.
For the many of us who are not Christian, that is actually a good idea. It is a wonderful children’s tradition that really has nothing to do with the resurrection of Jesus, which is what Easter celebrates. Why not take this wonderful tradition and broaden it beyond Easter?
If Mr. O’Reilly wants to play the Grinch, and prevent non-Christian children from enjoying this tradition, rather than referring to the idea as a “kind of stupidity,” he needs to realize it is his own stupidity about his own religion that takes the most holy of Christian holidays and diminishes it to the Easter bunny.
