Disappointed in Milford decision on Jewish holidays
I was very disappointed to read of the Milford Board of Education’s decision to eliminate Rosh Hashanah as a school closing. In addition to its significance as major holy days in the Jewish calendar, those teachers of the Jewish faith will be taking both Sept. 5 and 6 as personal leave days, requiring substitutes for their classrooms - a costly consideration.
It remains to be seen as to its wisdom in doing so.

Please note that after further public input the Milford Board of Education reversed its earlier decision and left the policy on Jewish holidays as it had been (that is, school is closed on the first day of Rosh Hashanah and on Yom Kippur.)
I'm glad that they did, as we have only moved here in the last year, and having run into issues in our old district holding my children home on Yom Kippur, this was a requirement for our new district.
